T I P 2 // Moving your shotgun mic closer to improve audio quality.
Most creators will mount their shotgun mic on top of their camera for talking bits and a lot of creators use professional boom setups to achieve that crispy audio but it can be pretty expensive. This little hack will help you get somewhere in between. While it won’t get you that boom setup quality, it’s great for YouTube videos or interviews if you’re in a pinch. Another great thing about this setup is that since the mic is still plugged into the camera with the longer 3.5mm cable, you don’t have to sync any audio in post (which you might have to using a boom setup).
Aside from your camera and mic, all you need to accomplish this is a longer 3.5mm cable, light stand, and a small ball head (like off a Joby tripod).
