First of all what is Emotional Intelligence?
According to the Oxford Dictionary - Emotional Intelligence is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
Why is this important?
Your Emotional Intelligence skills are believed to be huge contributors to your overall success in life, but why? Think about it, success is achieved through meaningful relationships and partnerships with others, life requires you to interact with and build relationships in order to play the game of life and that’s something that just can’t be done successfully if you allow your emotions to dictate your actions.
Someone who is considered to be emotionally intelligent is skilled in four areas: identifying emotions, using emotions, understanding emotions, and regulating emotions. Being able to recognize the emotions you are feeling. Managing those feelings without allowing them to consume you. Motivating yourself to get jobs done. Sensing the emotions of others, being empathetic and responding effectively.
HEAR ME OUT:
No one wants to be in any type of relationship/partnership/friendship with someone who doesn’t know themselves and is constantly letting their emotions rule their life. Emotional Intelligence is about knowing yourself to the root, knowing why you do the things you do, why you feel the things you feel and what thoughts are creating the outcomes in your life. It is self awareness, self regulation, self motivation and it is absolutely necessary.
