#Soundtrack to the 1984 " #startrek 3 : The Search for Spock" movie, directed by #LeonardNimoy himself, with Music composed by #JamesHorner . This U.S. pressing from 1984 on double black #vinyl , released by #CapitolRecords .
I have fond memories of watching the original star trek movies with my father, and the music will always have an effect of nostalgia on me. This #orchestralscore , the second from James Horner in the series, has a sense of adventure, rebirth and friendship, and is lighter that his previous, "Wrath of Khan". After the shocking events of that movie, "Search for Spock" offers a tone of wonder and of the spectacular. Some cues will have a bit more brooding vulcan mysticism elements (like on "returning to Vulcan") and some evoke the klingon threat ("klingons"), but listening to it again now, I feel it's more of a positive score
The score itself is contained on the first LP, while the second has a blank side 4, and a single track on side 3 : the gimmicky synth-pop version of the Search for Spock theme by Group 87. An expanded edition has been released on CD in 2010 by Retrograde Records.
