The stigma. The pain. The difficulty. 🌷Mental health is so important. It can be so hard when your struggling. I've lived through it myself. I've watched more than one loved one actively struggling. 🌷Depression and anxiety- two of the most common diagnoses seen on a patient's history.
Oftentimes, right alongside "ETOH" or substance abuse.
I don't usually discuss much about my nursing life because honestly, the ICU can be a sad and scary place, but I will say, I think most people would be appalled at the number of patients hospitalized for drugs and alcohol. Why? Mainly, mental health. 🏥 Sedated. Ventilators. Meds to ease withdrawal symptoms. Seizures. Organ failure. Confusion. Life support.
I know I don't want to be on the other end of that in the hospital. And I will go on a limb and say, you don't either. But sadly, we really don't have the best mental health services to treat everyone the way they need to be. So I actively work on my relationship, with myself, every day- however that may be! Sometimes reading, sometimes resting, sometimes chatting, sometimes working out, sometimes therapy.
Life is so short! So I will continue to work on my own personal development. Through the pain, and through the difficulty. And thankfully, through the good times, too. ♥️
