After months of questioning, probing, researching and engaging, DESIGN TRUST is launching a micro-initiative, “DESIGN TRUST: Critically Homemade”, a response to the current context and to foster play, social well-being and sustainability through homemade objects.
The initiative is born out of a realisation of the importance to facilitate creative collaborations amidst these challenging times. Our community of grantees, advisors, Design Trust Futures Studio mentors and mentees and designer-friends around the world are invited to participate, and prototype small homemade objects that respond to current societal and environmental challenges.
Marisa Yiu, Co-founder/Executive Director of DESIGN TRUST and Curator of the initiative, says, "More than ever, we hope our platform can do more and critically reflect on the past months of events in the context of Hong Kong and around the world, to build a positive momentum for our future again. With so many uncertainties, together with my team and board members, we’ve decided to launch a community platform that reduces the "distance" under social distancing measures, check in to say hello and inspire ourselves on the role of critical making within the home or domestic landscape.” To learn more about the initiative’s collective brief, and see what participating designers have come up with so far, please visit our “Design Trust: Critically Homemade” micro-site linked in our bio.
