My #18 of the decade is Xmen: First Class (2011). This movie started the new phase of the Xmen, showing the younger Xavier and Magneto working together to find and help other mutants.
This is the first of 5 comic book movies on my list, and it’s made the list because it’s both a fantastic film as well as a lot of fun. By far the standout of the whole film is Michael Fassbender as Magneto, who I’d previously seen in Inglorious Basterds and had absolutely fallen in love with. His magnetic presence on screen keeps you constantly riveted, and partnered with James McAvoy who plays Xavier (another standout) they absolutely shine. One great thing about First Class is that it truely humanises these characters so that you can relate to them and often understand their more malicious actions.
On a personal note... I remember the day I’d seen this I was having a truely horrendous day, and after watching it I’d completely forgotten about everything, I was so in awe of how great it was. The power of cinema and a truely epic movie 🙌
