I think now is the time that a lot of us are feeling the effects of being quarantined. Reality is setting in. “Stir crazy” doesn’t begin to describe how we may be feeling. But some things we can take away from this are 1) we are not alone and 2) we can always find the positive in any situation - if we look for it. It’s kinda like... you know how when you set your eyes on a pretty white Porsche & then all of a sudden you see them everywhere? That’s how positivity works. I’m not here to negate the obvious pain and struggle that this pandemic has caused, but rather I am trying to encourage us to try and see the good in any way we can, because we may be here a while. Full disclosure: The extension of social distancing each time has sent me into an anxiety of the unknown and has me seriously frustrated at times. ⠀ ⠀ Being pregnant and due in 3.5 months, having a toddler who doesnt understand and keeps asking for "kids club", and just being someone who usually has plans set to work towards - this is really sending me into a mental struggle some days. ⠀ ⠀ I get it babe. The most important thing is to allow yourself to feel how youre feeling and lean into it. Give yourself some grace. Then, get back to it and do what is going to help you feel better. ⠀ ⠀ This week, set 3 intentions for yourself that are going to help you feel good, mentally and physically. ⠀ - Drink more water⠀ - Get outside daily⠀ - Write 3 things youre grateful for ⠀ - Read instead of watching TV⠀ - Move your body⠀ - Limit the time on the news and social media⠀ - Unfollow people temporarily whose posts are bringing negativity to you, doesnt mean you dont love them but its important to protect your mental space right now too.⠀ - Talk to someone. Hey! I’ve been meditating. 🧠 Because I know that health is more complex than working out and eating right. I want to share this practice with YOU so you can experience all of its amazing benefits! Here’s how to get started: 1) Get comfortable and grab tools.You want to be comfortable enough to sit without having to rearrange and fidget, but not too comfortable! You do not want to fall asleep. Also, you wil need to grab a notebook or pad and something to write with. 📓 2) Eliminate unnecessary distractions. Put your phone on silent and throw it into the other room! Set a timer on your microwave or another device for 5-15 minutes instead. 🚫 3) Focus your gaze. You can close your eyes, which might help you turn inward. Or you can gaze at a candle.😔 4) Notice your breath. Belly breathing can help you find calm. Intentional breathing. Breathe in deeply for 4 seconds and breathe out for 4 seconds(1 cycle) both through the nose. Do this for 10 cycles then breathe normally. Focus on your breath forthe rest of the time. . 5) Notice your thoughts, and then just sit! Is your mind racing? Are you reliving past anxieties or anticipating the future? Notice all that comes up. Ground yourself in the PRESENT, it's impossible to be anxious about tomorrow when you ground yourself in the NOW. When thoughts come they will come between breaths. Just let those thoughts fade away and if you think of a solution to a problem you're having, then simply write it down and continue meditating. 💬 Continue this practice until your timer goes off. When 5 minutes becomes more tangible, consider meditating a bit longer. However, just five minutes each day is incredibly powerful. I’m usually a very positive-minded person. I’ll try to make the best of almost any situation and help those around me to as well. Today on my ride I saw evidence of people not sticking to requests not to travel to remote areas by car. I’m not a name and shame sort of person so the details can stay hidden. But what hit me was this. Exercise in the outdoors for me (and for @rex_thunderpaws) and I’m quite sure many thousands of people, is more than just a means to stay physically fit. For me, riding my bike outside is a way of keeping my #mentalhealth condition under control. Without this lifeline I can spiral into depression and place burden upon my family, especially on @charlielees who is already under pressure as a doctor in the NHS. . Sadly, on @instagram I suspect most people who see this will feel the same as me so this message may be pointless (or irritating, and if so, sorry), but if there’s some way we can get this message out there then we need to now before we lose this right. If we keep flaunting the rules then our privilages will be removed. 7 months to go and my heart is heavy. This virus has put a 100% stop to our wedding planning and I’m not sure if our 10.30.20 wedding will even happen. @bfit77kg and I have been waiting for the right time where we both were ready to take this huge step into our relationship and become wife and husband. But this virus has different plans for us and the world. It’s teaching us to see what’s truly important in life and despite us wanting a big wedding, maybe it’s not meant to happen? We still have some time to fully figure out what we will do and have HOPE that all of this will relax by the end of May at least. We haven’t sent out wedding invitations because A) I haven’t been mentally in the right place to gather addresses and B) because we don’t want to assume we will have a wedding while a virus is still going around making people ill. An anxiety attack, people may feel fearful, apprehensive, may feel their heart racing or feel short of breath, but it's very short lived, and when the stressor goes away, so does the anxiety attack. Panic attack on the other hand doesn't come in reaction to a stressor.
