“The fog crept slowly across the archipelago, leeching onto lush, green land and putrefying rock. Ravenous with insatiable hunger, it disintegrated everything in its path. The wind whistled loudly and with mirth, sounding eerily like laughter.
A group of townsfolk took cover in the church, bracing themselves for an onslaught. Heavy rain sounded like a battering ram as it pounded against the wood doors. Candles flickered in the darkness as a deep chill seeped into their bones. Children whimpered, huddled against their mothers and fathers, while brave souls held weapons at the ready. Though how one fought against a poisonous fog, no one knew. But they refused to give up. Somehow, they would make it through. Somehow, they’d survive.
Suddenly, the wood above them split apart, leaving a gaping whole where the roof used to be. Screams echoed in the chaos as the fog swelled closer and closer. In those dire moments, hope began to slip away, quickly replaced by raw, bone-chilling terror.
But then, there was a break in the clouds. A glorious, shining light which blasted away the fog quicker than it came. Silence momentarily filled the air before finally, a collective sigh of relief could be heard among them.
They had been saved.”
