Friendly Confrontations, the festival of global art and criticism of institutions takes place this weekend at Munich's @muenchner_kammerspiele. Based on the discussions on the curatorial legacy of Okwui Enwezor at the Haus der Kunst, the programme, conceived by curators Julia Grosse and Julian Warner, raises the question of the future role of art and cultural institutions in a globalised world. Enwezor demonstrated how art biennials and museum can approach the challenge of global narration by knowing their own history. From the suburbs of Accra to Detroit’s vacant lots and the “broken window” district of Giesing, the Kammerspiele bring together social realities and artistic positions. They come from a wide range of contexts. But they speak to one another. Participating artists include Heba Y. Amin and her performance "Operation Sunken Sea" which we recently featured in C&, and Ahya Simone who featured in our exhibition in Detroit "Show me your shelves". Images:
