This morning has been our time together, in a coffee shop, and talking about our past, present, and future. We’ve been going through a #relationshipgoals series at church, and also through a couples devotional a few mornings a week. Our eyes have truly been opened lately, and our hearts so full with being back together physically.
In the beginning of us we were so selfish and consumed by our own interests. We were young, dual income, and no kids. New cars yearly, built a brand new home outside Washington, DC, and barely saw each other because of work schedules. We fought because we were soaked in the “what’s in it for ME” attitude. We felt like we knew exactly what to do in marriage, and the recommendations and suggestions from mentors/family/friends were nothing but white noise and only made us stiff arm the relationship with those people.
We felt our relationship was healthy, but it was because our hearts were closed off to one another and we were tackling our own selfish ambitions. Our priorities were off.... WAY OFF. It wasn’t until our hearts were aligned that WE started to BECOME ONE.
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
We thank God daily for growing us together, because without Him we would not be as strong as we are today.
We truly complement each other now.
