i am livid by the way lunatics are handling/reacting to this situation. you are degrading the true meaning of JUSTICE. how can you wake up in the morning, eager to participate with the looting situation(s). especially, in downtown oakland and oakland emeryville. this kind of behavior is not acceptable and it’s ruining the roots of oakland. Is this your idea of JUSTICE? don’t use this [protest] as a leverage nor external validation into convincing yourself that what you are doing is “right”. it’s rumbustious and unethical. i am displeased and mortified. how can you walk around our beloved city and think it’s ok to destroy small owned businesses that has no affliction with the present. this is not ok. what are you trying to convey?Materials over justice? #doyourpart #blacklivesmatter #solidarity #silenceisviolence #justiceforfloyd

Yesterday, I ran a poll on Instagram asking my fellow first-generation Asian-American friends and followers if they knew how to say the words ‘racism’ or ‘discrimination’ in their own native language. To my surprise, it was about 50/50 with whether they could or not. I wanted to find out the answer to this because as many first-gen Asian-Americans can relate, our parents immigrated to the states not speaking very much English, or no English at all. This meant at home, we learned to speak our native language first. But, as Americans, once we got into the school system, we were put into ESL programs for years and years and as we grew up and got out into the world, moving out of our parent’s home, and probably not speaking our native language every day anymore, we start to lose it. And I questioned if we can’t even speak our own language fluently, do we even know the proper words for ‘racism’ or ‘discrimination’? How would we even convey, or communicate, and most importantly, educate our parents on the matter? Our parents came to this country with the ‘American dream’ in mind, and that entailed of success. But, with success for Asians, in particular, was the ‘model minority’ mindset and myth that was fed to them from day one. It created a divide between us and the Black community. It explains why many Asian immigrants, like our parents, have an internalised anti-Black agenda. I hope that you will take the time to learn what the words ‘racism’ and ‘discrimination’ are in your own native language and put those words to use when discussing and educating your parents about racism and discrimination. Add those words to your vocabulary and learn when and how to use them. Also, it’ll be a nice way to surprise your parents because they probably wouldn’t even expect you to know those words! 😉👍🏼

I have been angry, sad, and overwhelmed by the latest headlines to top the list of atrocities in our current world. But I have said nothing publicly…because I am afraid of doing it wrong…but not saying anything is worse, so here it goes… 💔 Most of us have endured hatred directed at us in one way or another at some point, maybe even in a threatening way. Many have also experienced discrimination…for me it has been as a woman (especially in medical settings), as a city person moving to the country, as a country person moving back to the city, as a middle class person around the wealthy, as someone who went to a public university by those who went to Ivy League, as someone in humble clothing around those in designer, as a wellness professional who doesn’t have enough “followers” by the popular, and the list goes on. But never once did any of this threaten my very life on a daily, large-scale level. There is a BIG difference. 💔 The closest I have come is through the lineage of my Sicilian heritage. Only two and three generations ago it was literally dangerous to be Sicilian here in the United States. My great-grandparents were marked as “black” or “dark” on their official papers…and that meant you were “less than”…even treated like an animal. The largest mass lynching in our country’s history was of 11 Sicilian-Americans in New Orleans in 1891. If you go to Ellis Island you can see descriptions of Southern Italians as “good replacements” for the African-American slaves due to their work ethic and tolerance of the hot weather conditions. As you can see in the second picture, cartoons were commonly made of Southern Italians and how to best dispose of them. 💔 This is why I MUST speak up. We can’t continue the bullying cycle of staying silent because we are just relieved we have “made it to safety” and are out of the spotlight. My father and I STILL have experienced comments that we are “African” and not “real Italians,” or that we are “Black Italians,” and though it pisses me off, it doesn’t impact how we are able to live our lives. So what is the difference? I LOOK "the part”…I look white. 💔 Just like I talk about the foundation of physical healing.. 💔CONTINUED👇

"Injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere." All black lives matter. Period. I cannot call myself a tap dancer without considering it's deep roots in Black history and Black culture. I cannot benefit from this artform without acknowledging the oppression and social injustices experienced by Black lives that ultimately developed tap dance and jazz music as a way of expression. I cannot be influenced by the tap dancers who came before me without recognizing their resilience to overcome racial prejudices in order to perform and present their craft. If I am to call myself a tap dancer, then I MUST be an ally. I must use the power of my privilege to do something about the injustices that are (STILL) happening today! If we are to SUCCESSFULLY eradicate racial injustices/prejudices, then we must be CONSISTENT with our allyship. Do your part. Educate yourself. Unlearn your bias. What's happening right now is NOT OKAY. It is NOT NORMAL. "Injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere." . . . . . . . #BlackLivesMatter #WhitePrivilege #ThisIsNotNormal #ThisIsNotOkay #ICantBreathe #EradicateRacism #DoNotDiscriminate #BeAnAlly #Ally #TapDance #BlackHistory #BlackCulture #ABlackArtform #UnlearnBias #EducateYourself #DoYourPart

Apply the pressure!! Everyone has a platform, big or small - USE IT!!! God has given us all the ability to exercise our part. It could be in the streets, monetary, prayer.... This makes me smile, not because he's a "celebrity", because he is using his platform to make American better for future generations. It's not about where you been but where you are going!!! We are all on the same path, just different methods. #Godisstillonthethrone #dontjudge #doyourpart #blacklivesmatter #PentecostSunday 🖤✊🏾

If youve been following my stories, then you know I have been far from silent, but I felt it was time to address it in a post too👌🏼 the reason I stand up and I’m so loud about this injustice that occurs too often is because my son, my boyfriend, my brothers and sisters, my aunt, my nana, and so many other amazing peoples lives matter👏🏼 to sit and try and stray away from BLM right now makes me sad. • I’ve seen so many people use the “black on black crime is high” excuse but if you’ve educated yourself, then you know that every race kills their own race more than any other meaning that excuse you love to use is invalid👏🏼 I’ve seen people deflect with saying all lives matter and you’re absolutely right, they do. But all lives aren’t the ones being taken by crooked cops who then get to pretty much walk freely after to doing so. Ive seen people only speak up about the looting and destruction and not say a word about #GeorgeFloyd death🤔🤔Please ask yourself why you’re more outraged over building than a human life?🤷🏼‍♀️ Yes, the destruction and looting is unfortunate and obviously I don’t condone violence, but I can understand why it’s occurred. I’m also not excusing people stealing and taking advantage of this to do so cause they should be disgusted for even giving people the opportunity to take away from the message that needs to be heard. • It just saddens me to see so many make excuses for what’s gone on when even police chiefs, sheriffs, and other officers are out there protesting to end police brutality. I get you might not know what to say or understand, but to sit by and watch innocent people continuously die at the arms of people who are set to protect and serve and still be silent or make excuses is an issue. Ways you can help if you’re unable to protest would be to Share lawyers numbers that are doing pro bono services💪🏼, share state officials numbers, sign petitions🖊, educate people that are asking how to help, & speak up. • To those who have acknowledged their wrongs in the past, used their platform to educate, and are out there marching and protesting for some justice, please know that you are seen and you’re appreciated🙌🏼

Too many tickets wasted, too little truth. These special trains don’t seem to be going anywhere, because nobody here seems to have gotten any closer to home. The cost of a ticket, though, is high. Money doesn’t come easy for these workers, especially considering most of them have lost their jobs. So when they buy into scams like these, the only option most of them have is to walk or cycle the rest of the strenuous journey. They go on, not knowing whether they’ll be reimbursed for their tickets, how they’ll make do with unprecedentedly tight finances, or whether they’ll even make the rest of the way. There’s people along their journeys who have helped- many Sardars have generously provided them sustenance and transport. It’s wonderful efforts like theirs that strengthen our belief in your desire for change. Until the misinformation and ambiguity surrounding the logistics behind special trains and buses dissipate, you can protect these workers from further undue stress. #donateahaircut today, and for Rs500, you can cover the cost of one migrant labourer’s journey by truck/bus. #doyourpart and be someone they can rely on. #sendthemhome #covid19 #covid19relief #theyneedus

Black churches. White churches. Multicultural churches stand up. Be a voice in this time. During the civil rights movement churches were vital. They held meetings, organized and provided the spiritual, emotional and physical support needed for young folks that were protesting and standing up for change. We need the church again. Hello everyone- here’s a post to officially announce the opening of my Etsy shop. Please go to the link in my bio to find my shop- I am still in the process of updating some possible things to purchase, so if you don’t find something you like right away, make sure to check back and let me know anything else that you would be interested in seeing me create and sell (I’ll be making things like cards and other stationery too which should be for sale VERY soon). For the month of June, 100% of my sales will be going to the BLM movement, including Black Visions Collective, the Minnesota Freedom Fund, the official George Floyd Fund, and any other organizations of your choice that you would like me to donate to in your name. We must take action to stop the virus that is racism, and it is necessary that we do so now, TOGETHER. Please do your part, whether it be through educating yourself and others, donating, or any other means that you know will help make a real change. Thank you, and stay safe everyone.

The same problem has been going on for years, please stop making it more complicated than it is. Whether or not these people committed the crimes they’re said to have committed, they did not call for the death penalty and most didn’t even get a fair trial (if you wanna be technical). As a Japanese-Korean-American, I am privileged. I grew up in an amazing home with loving and supportive parents. I never needed or wanted for anything. Even with the discrimination I have experienced, I will never be able to truly understand the terror and dehumanizing atrocities that black communities endure and face on a daily basis. My hope is that by speaking out and showing solidarity through action, this will inspire more people to stand up and speak out against the injustices that are being committed to black communities. I can and will do better, and I hope you will too. I have decided that I need to put my money where my mouth is and will be donating to @bailproject. This is just one of many organizations that can use your support, and I hope you will join me in donating to those in need. As allies and advocates, we have a job to do. A true WIN/WIN! 5 ways to #saveenergy – some big some small – that will have a positive impact on your wallet and #theenvironment. PROFESSIONAL ENERGY AUDIT: Taking between 1-5 hours and averaging $400 (national), recommendations from a pro can save up to 30% on your energy bill. SEE WHAT’S USING THE MOST ENERGY: Home energy monitors that plug into your your electric panel, provide details of energy use through a mobile app. Plug-in kilowatt meters measure the amount of energy individual appliances use – like your refrigerator or computer. USE SMALLER MACHINES: Devices used for work and play can have a big impact on your energy usage. A desktop computer draws more energy than a laptop and many game consoles, like Playstation and Xbox, offer movie streaming apps, but are fare less efficient than smaller devices designed for streaming. UPDATE OLD APPLICANCES: No surprise here – newer appliances operate much more efficiently than older ones. The most efficient appliances have an Energy Star rating from the DOE and EPA. Newer washing machines and dishwashers often have an ‘eco’ setting or efficiency cycle. CHANGE OUT OLD LIGHTS: If you are still using incandescent bulbs, it’s time to make the switch to LED bulbs. An LED bulb using 8 watts produces the same brightness as a 60-watt incandescent bulb and lasts 40 times longer - which means less waste as well. #doyourpart #saveenergy #greenpower #energyconservation #carealtor #orangecountyrealestate

No food posts today. There is simply too much going on to be candid. This is the only thing I can think to say to myself and to others these days. • • Not sure how to make change? There are more options than you think. You can join those in the streets to protest, you can contribute donations, heck, you can use social media! • • To not do anything at all is the most damaging. • • Determine how you plan to provide aid whether it is with physical, financial or verbal presence. Find your platform. • • #findyourplatform #riseup #doyourpart #solidarity #worktogether #everylittlebithelps #dosomething

Day 31 of #menstrualmay. While action on social media is great, we also have to use our voices in other ways if we ever hope to create a world where there is no period poverty and stigma. We strongly encourage you to write a letter to a member of parliament and advocate for this issue. Here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oQRS3eP2gxO5QbRLgPtZfSYqbRXvrwEEYDnuNGxNZMU you can find a simple letter that you are welcome to use and send. That being said, writing your own letter is always encouraged. In the document, you will also find the emails of all your local and national representatives, which you can use to send your letters. Together, we can show the government the need for free menstrual products and we can help menstruators everywhere gain access to the essential products they need to care for their health. #menstruationmatters #standup #doyourpart #endperiodpoverty #endperiodstigma

Find comfort in being uncomfortable - My mind has been heavy with the happenings of the world. I didn’t feel like showing up for myself on my mat, let alone my class participants. I asked myself how I could use my privilege today, as a white woman and as an instructor of movement, and I decided that we would start with a mindful moment of peace. ☮️ I gave my class the option to choose their own intention while I silently prayed for everything on my mind; peace, justice, equality✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 I didn’t push my intention on my participants but I gave them the space to do the same for themselves, without judgement. I think that’s what being a movement instructor is truly about. Showing up for others without judgement and providing the space for what is needed to each individual in that class.❤️ - We then proceeded into what I consider “uncomfortable movements” with lots of extension to open our hearts ❤️ My hope is that by doing the movements that are uncomfortable, it teaches us that sometimes in life we need to do the same. So if you feel uncomfortable with the state of the world right now, ask yourself why and see if you can get comfortable with making a difference where you can. We are stronger together🕊 - #peace #love #pilates #pilatesinstructor #movementheals #doyourpart #blacklivesmatter

Take ☝🏽🎬🤗I felt very inspired to sing one of my favorite hymns today for you all on this beautiful sabbath day. It’s called “Love at Home”. Everything about this song resonates with us. Home is where we can start to change the world 🌍 it’s also our anchor, our refuge, our sanctuary. May you all fill your home with the light, love, laughter, wisdom and compassion to help us all overcome these perilous times. Lots of love to you all!! XO The Myers 1. There is beauty all around When there's love at home; There is joy in ev'ry sound When there's love at home. Peace and plenty here abide, Smiling sweet on ev'ry side. Time doth softly, sweetly glide When there's love at home. Love at home, love at home; Time doth softly, sweetly glide When there's love at home. 2. In the cottage there is joy When there's love at home; Hate and envy ne'er annoy When there's love at home. Roses bloom beneath our feet; All the earth's a garden sweet, Making life a bliss complete When there's love at home. Love at home, love at home; Making life a bliss complete When there's love at home. 3. Kindly heaven smiles above When there's love at home; All the world is filled with love When there's love at home. Sweeter sings the brooklet by; Brighter beams the azure sky. Was incredibly fortunate to drive to South Lake for a candlelight vigil for George Floyd. I will say, I’m not usually one to attend events like this and I think I’ve become a lot less politically active over the past few years...But so proud to stand with a community that was solely peacefully protesting. It’s time to DO YOUR PART. SPEAK UP. You have a voice, USE IT! As a white priveleged woman, it’s hard for me to piece together the right words. I can’t even begin to understand what it’s like the be oppressed (to put it lightly) and my heart is so heavy 💔But what I do know is that I can’t just sit back and do/say nothing. If things are going to change, it has to be done together. WHAT YOU CAN DO: •SIGN PETITIONS and DONATE to rightfully charge the officers in George’s murder. •TEXT “JUSTICE” “FLOYD” or “ENOUGH” to 55156 •CALL/EMAIL/DM Gov Tim Walz @walzforgovernor (612) 201 3400 Mayor Jacob Frey @jacobfrey (612) 673 2100 DA Mike Freeman (612) 348 5550 Police Chief Arendondo (612) 673 3550 . Take 5 minutes and do one of the above. This needs to stop and it’s horrifying. I’ve also put more resources on how to EDUCATE yourself in the link in my bio . “I can’t breathe” “No justice no peace” “Hands up, don’t shoot” ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼 . #justiceforgeorgefloyd #endracism #onerace

I normally post about the things I like... Coffee. Running. My dogs. Weight Lifting. Etc. Today is not that day. I've seen a number of posts on various social media platforms by people saying they're ashamed to be American citizens because of the riots. This is sad. Keep reading. You know how when you see an iceberg all you notice is the tip that's above the water while there's a much larger portion below the surface that never gets paid attention to? When you isolate and compartmentalize the riots all you're doing is paying attention to the tip of the iceberg and ignoring the bigger problem. I don't agree with violent destruction either, but I understand why it's happening. The riots ought not to be what makes people feel ashamed to be American, the racism in this country which gets ignored and downplayed is what should break our hearts. It breaks my heart. It's too easy to say 'I'm not racist' and look the other way. When you say or think that, you're basically saying 'not my problem' and looking the other way. Jesus didn't look the other way and neither should we. All are precious in His sight. The time for half-hearted social media posts is over. The time for finger-pointing is over. The time for hatred is over. It's time to listen. Its time to learn. It's time to look below the surface of the water and face the problem together. Let's be better. Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. -1 John 2:9 ESV. . . . . . #georgefloyd #racism #blacklivesmatter #amaudarbery #hope #bebetter #bettertogether #speakup #endwhitesilence #policebrutality #georgefloydmattered #racismisreal #enoughisenough #ivehadenough #problackisntantiwhite justiceforgeorgefloyd #endracism #endracismnow #racisminamerica #realtalk #doyourpart #doyourwork #nomoresilence #speakup
