Saturday 6th June is the 1st anniversary of the re-opening of the Star & Garter in Bristol.
One Love. One life. One Pub. One Year…
Words by landlord, Malcolm Haynes
One Year on:
Running a pub is so much different than running festival bars. At festivals you set up, serve, have fun, then take it down. I can honestly say that running the Star and Garter is much more fun. I live at the pub, so feel part of the community very much. I’ve always lived pretty much in inner city Bristol. I feel very comfortable living above the pub, getting to know my immediate neighbours, and contributing to the local area.
Life is a little tougher as it’s an everyday job. It took me a little while to get to grips with it, but now I love being the landlord and hope to serve the community not just in drinks and food but support for local causes as well.
There’s a lot of late night and early mornings, but, having a background as a promoter/festival organiser, I am somewhat used to the late nights. And I really enjoy the interaction with my customers .
With the ongoing Covid-19 situation we plan to re-open as a take-away only and hopefully we will be able in the not too distant future to have our customers back in the pub. We will be taking all the necessary steps with our Health and Safety policies to ensure the safety for our staff and customers.
We will be serving from the side exit door for takeaway only till further notice.
Red stripe / Korev / Estrella / Thatcher’s gold / Guinness.
Lisa’s Kitchen menu:
Jerk chicken / Curry Goat / Veg Curry / Rice and Peas
Temporary opening times will be:
