This evening I want to touch on types of guilt and some ways to help you cope with it. . Guilt is an emotion. It can often times be accompanied with worry, agony, loneliness and grief. People may experience guilt when they feel they’ve caused harm and are responsible for someone’s misfortune. . Dr. Whitbourne, a psychologist, discusses five types of guilt that people may experience: 1) guilt for something you did; 2) guilt for something you didn’t do, but want to; 3) guilt for something you think you did; 4) guilt that you didn’t do enough to help someone; and 5) guilt that you’re doing better than someone else. . The problem with guilt arises when people experience guilt on a chronic basis. This means, they believe in the illusion that they’ve caused harm to someone else. Guilt becomes more of an automatic thought, causing dysfunctional attitudes, catastrophizing situations and overgeneralizing experiences. . Of course, if you’ve done something wrong, it’s normal to feel guilt and hopefully you’re able to appropriately rectify the situation. However, when guilt becomes chronic, and you begin to ruminate over this guilt, it can be helpful to seek the advice of a therapist and work through this emotion. . In addition to seeing a therapist, it can also be helpful to have a supportive network of people who can help you to recognize your personal standards and encourage you to avoid straying in the future. Additionally, you can also begin to recognize your thoughts, accept them as part of who you are right now, and commit to changing your behaviour, especially if you were planning to do something that you already feel guilty about. . MENTAL HEALTH Now more then ever I am leaning into the things I know help manage my anxiety. The NEWS these days is so overwhelming, and at times I simply have to turn it off. Not to pretend it isn’t happening. Not to bury my head in the sand. Not to ignore. But simply to breath, reflect and process. I either take a break, or get swept up in it all and crumble. So this evening I was SELFISH, and my focus was on ME. #formysanity I came home and got outside for a run with pup. Usually when I run 🏃‍♀️ there is a plan or goal. But today it was about #selfcare .I simply wanted be outside to clear my mind. I think a huge part of being mentally healthy is knowing what your safe space is and when to go there. For me it’s the kitchen, in times of distress or high anxiety I can just go to the kitchen and follow a recipe. Following the motions of this activity helps me to recenter my attention and work through whatever emotions I am struggling with. I remember in high school whenever I was upset I would bake a huge batch of cookies and share them with my dance team, friends at school, or at work. Baking and sharing with others bring me so much happiness. This has played a huge role in my wellness journey especially now, times are tough and sometimes things seem so painfully daunting you don’t know what to do, but you can redirect those wild thoughts into something productive like a batch of cookies. It’s hard to explain but just simply baking something up completely shakes my anxiety and helps me just start over. I encourage everyone to find what brings them joy and never let it go!! I can assure you this week there will be lots of baking😊 Ps. Can I tell you a secret?? . I am not a very anxious person, but with everything going on these past few days my anxiety has been crazy. . It has been so hard to see everything that is going on in the world. 🌎✌🏼 . Like I said today, what has been keeping me sane is focusing on what I can actually control myself. . So as soon as I got home from work I jumped in the shower, washed all the negativity away, and then I started staging our room and praying.🧖✝️ . And no not everything just disappeared, but at least it help me relax, and refocus on what I CAN control. . Now my head is clear, and I can focus on what my next step is. . Where to even start when it comes to what we’re all going through right now 🤷🏻‍♀️ . There is so many nutrition related implications to address with the quarantine I think I’ve been avoiding posting because it’s all so overwhelming. . First off - it doesn’t matter if you have gained or lost weight right now just focus on taking care and eating quality ingredients. . You can almost NEVER go wrong when you’re focused on food quality. . Secondly, females, eat 👏🏼 your 👏🏼 protein 👏🏼. Protein is the building blocks for creating feel good hormones. I have been quieter than usual on social media because it felt hypocritical to post memes about racism, when I knew deep down I wasn't doing the real anti-racism work I needed to be doing. Here are some things that have helped me move forward, instead of feeling overwhelmed⠀ ⠀ - For longest time I thought donating money, signing petitions and going to protests was enough. But those were all things that made me feel GOOD. I was avoiding doing all the things that made me feel BAD (like learning how to manage deep shame I have about my own ⠀ privileges or checking the racism in myself). Being honest with myself about this was painful but ultimately liberating ⠀ ⠀ - I hear so many people say- I want to help but what can I really do? Often times, the reason we feel helpless is because we're not informed or educated. Turns out, when we educate ourselves, we become less helpless and are better positioned to help! ⠀ ⠀ - As a life coach, I know that change always starts from within and happens on an individual level. I have always said that if you want to change and heal your outter world, you must start by changing and healing your inner world. It makes sense that this applies to social justice, too. For many of us, if we want to see a more just world, we can start by undoing our own conditioning. I believe this is some of the important work we can do⠀ ⠀ - IMPORTANT 👏👏"What do I do if I feel overwhelmed?? I already have so much going on in my life, I don't have the emotional bandwidth." In short, I don't believe the idea that if you're not killing yourself, you're not down with the cause. Remember, THIS IS JUST MORE conditioning from CAPITALISM and THE PATRIARCHY sneaking in the back door. By running yourself into the ground, not honoring your limits, and feeling like you're never doing enough, you are buying into the very toxic belief capitalism is based on. This is an opportunity for us to learn to do work in a sustainable way so we can be here for the long haul. ⠀ ⠀ I am not an expert in any of this. There are many people out there who have dedicated their lives to this work and I defer to them. I am learning, and I hope we can continue to learn together.⠀

I have to explain this because I’m a little mortified at a few videos I have come across on Facebook today 😳 Introducing oils to your horses I can not stress enough if you are new to oils & you are trying to get your horse to sniff from the bottle be patient if your horse turns it’s head & isn’t interested STOP!!! If your horse is interested but your wanting it to breathe in 2 or more oils STOP!!! You can also topically apply a roller to your horses poll, top of there tail, fetlocks & chest but only small amounts. Place 3 drops of each oil topped with coconut oil into a roller bottle & allow your horse to sniff from that ONE BOTTLE!!! (If your using cedar wood & balance place 3 drops with coconut oil or you can follow my blend below) The best oils to use for anxiety, stress, separation anxiety, calming or relaxing is; 2 drops of lavender peace 2 drops of lavender 2 drops of balance Topped with coconut oil I usually place these oils in a partially emptied 15ml bottle of one the above mentioned to re-use. I also pop these in a 10ml roller bottle & have in my vest pocket when out on trails.
