Comparison is the Thief of Joy!
When we compare ourselves or our REAL life to the filtered, curated and 'perfection' we see on SM we pummel our self esteem and destroy our self worth.
No amount of make up, cosmetic surgery or travel selfies will be enough to put a filter on our real lives.
This isn't too say social media is bad or wrong. When used to create legitimately valuable content it helps people connect, can inspire and help shape people's minds in many positive ways.
However never forget that the same medicine that is used to cure a headache can also be used up kill ourselves / or another.
The consequences that misuse of SM can have on our minds if we allow it to are insidious and do potentially harmful that much mindfulness is required when utilising it.
We can offer consume it, become overly reliant upon it, we can numb out with it, we can overload and deplete our dopamine with it, it can cause us to become completely insane and disconnected of we allow it to.
I’m a huge fan of Instagram, I have connected with some incredible people, collaborated people I would have never have dreamt of working with because of it and been able to reach so many more people than I would have without it.
If you are on social media, and you are not learning, not laughing, not being inspired, not networking, not starting important conversations or not delivering high quality content. Then it's using you and you are not utilising it.
How has SM helped you and benefitted your or those in your circle / community?
How has it brought detriment to you, your life, your habits or the self image of yourself or people you know?
