Humayun's tomb was commissioned by Humayun's first wife and chief consort, Empress Bega Begum in 1569-70, and designed by Mirak Mirza Ghiyas and his son, Sayyid Muhammad, Persian architects chosen by her. It was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent, and is located in Nizamuddin East, Delhi, India, close to the Purana Qila (Old Fort), that Humayun found in 1533. It was also the first structure to use red sandstone at such a scale. The tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993. . . #ancient #history #art #travel #photography #archaeology #architecture #nature #ancienthistory #travelphotography #archeology #culture #egypt #photooftheday #museum #beautiful #old #heritage #temple #instatravel #indiafocus #instagood #love #india #ancientegypt #ig #travelgram #picoftheday #archivecollectivemag #archtober

E ora tocca a voi!

#mansiones #mutatio #imperoromano #romanempire #roma #rome #italy #italia #europe #europa #europaromana #history #storia #historyfacts #strade #straderomane #ancient #ancientrome #antichità #anticaroma #archeology #archeologia #autogrill #storico #romans #storiaromana

Ekbacken gravfält. (Västerås 55:1) (post # 2) - ... continuing from the previous post ... - Another tradition linked to the legend of Jämmerung says that where the museum now stands was the location of the old village of Vallby. At that time it was called Dalbo and it was burned down by the enemy after the battle at the river. No excavation has ever been done here so we do not really know how old the burials are. Judging by the types of grave monuments the grave-field (gravfält) has been dated to the Late Iron Age (375–1042CE), a very long period of time. Surrounding Jämmerungshögen there are around 20 more grave monuments. Protruding from the northwestern side of the Jämmerungshögen is a 3×5m platform that is 0.3m high. On this platform a small standing stone (0.85m high) is erected. Three smaller burial mounds run down the hill in a straight line towards the northeast, they range from 8-10m in diameter and 0.6-0.7m high. To the south are three round stone-settings 5.5-6.0m in diameter. They were easy to see when you are there but maybe not so much in my photos. Also to the south is a rectangular stone-setting 4.0×3.5m that now has a tree growing out of it. To the east is a "treudd", which is a triangular stone-setting with its sides pushed in. I added a sketch I found to this post to show you how they look. I was able to find it but it is very hard to see in the photo. This one has 9m long sides. To the north there is an 8.5×3.5m ship-shaped stone-setting. - Next to Jämmerungshögen is a stone with exceptionally deep cup-marks carved onto it. Cup marks are a type of petroglyph (hällristning) from the Bronze Age, so people were using this hill for ceremonies long before the grave-field. Nobody really knows what they were used for/symbolized. The most popular theory is that they are symbols of fertility made in order to have a good harvest. Cup marks are concentrated near ancient fields for farming or livestock. Another theory is that grain was ritually ground in the cups as an offering to the gods but doesn't explain why some are carved on vertical rock faces. Other theories range from star-maps to cups to hold blood from animal or human sacrifice.

Masjed-e-Shāh, was constructed by the order of Īrān’s Shāh, Shāh abbās the great,in Safavid period. Apart from the magnificent and unique art of this Iranian mosque, the Sāsānian Flag symbol on the walls of this magnificent monument is very interesting to me. This magnificent monument is just a droplet of the Iranian magnificent culture. ———————————————————————— ‎#ایران #ایرانی #iran #iranian #culture #civilization #history #historical #art #alphabet #architecture #dna #religion #middle_east #mesopotemia #egypt #rome #greece #china #old #oldest #ancient #beautiful #beauty

Ekbacken gravfält. (Västerås 55:1) (post # 1) - At the far northern part of Vallby friluftsmuseum in Västerås you will find an Iron Age grave-field (gravfält). It is located on a hill called "Ekbacken" (The Oak Hill) because of the large ancient oak trees growing on it. I have tried to come here for several years now, Ekbacken was closed because some of the old trees had fallen over and there was a risk that more would fall. Now that they have cleaned up the dangerous trees it is opened again! Itt was snowing adding to the magical atmosphere. There is a wooden fence that separates the grave-field from the rest of the museum. Going through the gate was like stepping into a long gone world, the fence dividing our world with the world of our pagan ancestors. Later I found a way into the golf course that stretches to the north of Ekbacken. Because of the horrible weather there were no golfers, from there you can get some wonderful photos! - The first thing you notice when you approach is a large burial mound placed on the highest point of the hill. This mound that measures 18m in diameter and 2.5m high is named "Jämmerungshögen" (The Mound of Jämmerung). According to legend an ancient battle took place at the river Svartån which runs right next to the museum. The two armies took up their positions on either side of the river but in the coming battle the army on the eastern bank overcame the one on the western. In the meadow between Ekbacken and the river a prince named Jämmerung fell with many of his men. He was buried in the large mound and his men were buried in the smaller graves around it. Locals said they have seen a fire lit at night next to the large oak at the base of hill. They say it is Jämmerung standing guard over his grave. The large pit at the center of the mound suggests it has been looted in the past. Another local story says that some grave robbers came one day but a large boulder tumbled down the hill. They ran away thinking it was the angry spirit of Jämmerung. They also say that those who are planning to rob the mound must be completely silent because if you say a single world the treasure will disappear. - Continuing in the next post ...

Apollonia was an ancient Greek city located on the right bank of the Aous river (modern-day Vjosë). Its ruins are situated in the Fier County, next to the village of Pojani (Polina), in modern-day Albania. Apollonia was founded in 588 BC by Greek colonists from Corfu and Corinth on a site where native Illyrian tribes lived, and was perhaps the most important of the several classical towns known as Apollonia. #morealbania #ma #visitalbania #summer2020 #holidays2020 #adventuretime #saturday #ancient #adriaticsea #explorealbania #exploreeurope #nature #architectural #travelphotography #igtravel #travelblogger #talktochatbot #ilovebot #messengerbot #facebookbot

Pushkarani, Hampi The pushkaranis of Hampi display great architectural beauty. They are built in the typical Vijayanagara style of architecture. Many of these water tanks have beautiful rows of pillars or decorative arcade surrounding them. The pushkaranis in Hampi are a part of the ancient town’s planning and architecture. Many of the pushkaranis were built during the time of the Vijaynagar empire. The water tanks related to the temples were used to serve the ritualistic purposes of those temples. There are some water tanks that are not related to the temples. Some of the water tanks are situated within the Royal Enclosure and they were built for the use of the members of the royal family of Vijayanagara. #pushkarini #hampi #hampilove #pushkarani #karnataka #karnatakatourism #karnatakadiaries #hampidiaries #incredibleindia #steppedtank #iloveindia #historicalplace #ancient #royalfamily #note8prophotography #note8pro #mobilephotography #snapseededit #xiomiindia #bikediaries #rideyourbike #heritage

Mahabalipuram, not far from Madras in Southern India, was a major port in the 7th to 9th century. Many magnificent temples and rock carvings are left from that period. It was then basically deserted for many centuries, which contributed to the very good preservation of the ruins. Mahabilipuram remained a village until well into this century, popular mainly with backpackers who enjoyed the cheap stays, the quiet (that has changed now) and the great lobsters. * * #temple #statues #southindia #indiatourism #indiaart #indianstyle #travelindia #india_everyday #amazingasia #travelasia #phototraveller #travelphotooftheday #travelphotograpy #travelinspiration #travelwithme #globaltrotter #phototour #makingmemories #amazingplace #wonderfulworld #culturetrip #instaart #architecture #historicsite #unescoworldheritage #heritage #world_heritages_ #ancient #monument #ancientbuilding

A 4.6 metre high sitting Buddha, carved 5 metres deep out of a cliff face, alongside two other giant statues. Built under 12th century Sri Lankan king Parakramabahu I. Builder of hospitals, water reservoirs, roads - when his architects told him he wanted too much he responded "what is there in the world that cannot be carried out by people of energy?" He succeeded his uncle Kitti as king of one of the islands three kingdoms at the age of 17 in 1140, and after a long military campaign gained control over the whole island in 1153. He ruled until 1186, having brought his country to new heights of infrastructure but impoverishing the population through overly high taxes. * * #srilankatravel #buddhism #buddha #amazingasia #travelasia #traveler #travelmemories #traveltheworld #travelinspiration #travelwithme #culturetrip #historicsite #unescoworldheritage #ancient #monument #photoarchitecture #phototraveller #phototour #travelphotooftheday #borntotravel #vacationgoals #makingmemories #amazingplace #wonderfulworld #wandermore #wonderlust #fromthearchives #neverstopexploring #exploreyourworld #lifeisanadventure
